200+ bird species = constant droppings: Rouge National Urban Park is one of the most biodiverse areas in southern Ontario — over 200 bird species use it for breeding, migration, and year-round habitat. Homes along the park boundary receive significantly more bird droppings than interior city homes. Bird droppings are acidic (pH 3-4.5) and etch glass if left for more than 2-3 weeks. The uric acid component permanently bonds to glass surfaces in sun exposure. During spring migration (April-May) and fall migration (September-October), dropping density increases 3-5x. Homes backing onto the park need minimum 3x/year cleaning.
