Soffit & Fascia Cleaning Toronto
The Part of Your Home You're Forgetting

Dirty soffits kill attic ventilation. Dirty fascia hides rot. Both are visible from the street.

Most homeowners clean their windows, some clean their gutters, but almost nobody thinks about their soffits and fascia. These are the unsung heroes of your home's exterior — they protect your roof structure, ventilate your attic, and hold your gutters in place. When they're dirty, three things happen: your attic ventilation drops (raising energy bills 10-15%), fascia rot hides behind dirt until it's a $2,000-$8,000 repair, and your roofline looks decades older than it is.

6 Signs Your Soffits & Fascia Need Cleaning

🕸️ Cobwebs & Nests

Spider webs, wasp nests, and mud dauber tubes block soffit ventilation holes. Common in spring (April-May) when insects become active.

🟢 Green/Black Streaks

Algae and mould growth on north-facing soffits and fascia. Caused by moisture + shade. Spreads rapidly in humid spring months.

🟤 Brown Staining

Leaf tannin stains from gutter overflow. Water overflows dirty gutters, runs down fascia, and leaves brown streaks that won't wash off with rain.

🎨 Peeling Paint

Paint peeling on fascia = moisture behind the paint. Could be early rot. Clean first to inspect — if wood is soft underneath, it needs replacement, not just paint.

🐦 Bird Droppings

Birds perch on fascia edges. Droppings are acidic and stain/etch vinyl and wood. Remove within 1-2 weeks to prevent permanent staining.

🌡️ Hot Attic

If your upper floor is notably hotter than ground floor in summer, clogged soffit vents may be the cause. Clean soffits can drop attic temps 10-20°F.

Materials & Cleaning Methods

The hidden rot problem: Toronto's freeze-thaw cycles are brutal on wood fascia. Water gets into cracks, freezes, expands, and splits the wood from the inside. By the time you see exterior damage, the rot is 2-3 years old and may extend into the roof rafters. Fascia replacement: $15-$30/linear foot. Rafter repair behind fascia: $2,000-$8,000. Annual cleaning lets you catch soft spots BEFORE they become structural problems.

Cost Guide

The "while we're up there" advantage: When your gutters are being cleaned, your cleaner is already on a ladder at roofline height. Adding soffit and fascia cleaning to a gutter job adds 30-60 minutes and $50-$100 — vs a separate trip that costs $150-$400. Always ask: "Can you clean the soffits and fascia while you're up there?" With MANTLE, it's included in our complete exterior packages.
Ventilation test: After soffit cleaning, hold a tissue or piece of toilet paper up to each soffit vent hole. If the tissue is pulled toward the hole, airflow is working. If nothing happens, the vent may be blocked from inside (insulation pushed against soffit — common in homes with blown-in attic insulation). That's a separate fix, but cleaning removes the exterior obstruction first.
