Can You Clean Windows in the Rain?
The Toronto Weather Truth

Rain doesn't dirty clean windows. Here's why — and what actually matters.

"Should I cancel my window cleaning because it might rain?" We get this question every week. The answer surprises most people.

The Rain Myth — Busted

MYTH

"Rain makes clean windows dirty"

This is the #1 window cleaning myth. Rain is essentially distilled water — it's very pure. What makes windows dirty after rain isn't the rain itself — it's the existing dirt, film, and mineral residue ON the window mixing with rainwater. Clean glass + rain = clean glass. The rain just runs off.

TRUTH

"Rain on DIRTY windows makes them look worse"

This IS true. Rain activates the dirt already on your windows — dissolving some, streaking others, and leaving tide marks as droplets evaporate. This is why your dirty windows look even worse after rain. But rain on professionally cleaned windows? No effect.

TRUTH

"Purified water makes rain irrelevant"

When windows are cleaned with ClearCoat™ purified water (0-5 mg/L TDS), there's zero mineral residue left on the glass. Rain beads up and runs off — like water on a freshly waxed car. Tap water cleaning (120-140 TDS in Toronto) leaves a mineral film that rain CAN interact with.

Weather Guide — When We Work, When We Don't

🌤️

Sunny

✅ We work

Great for customers to enjoy. Pros work fast — solution dries quicker, requires faster squeegee work.

☁️

Overcast

✅ Ideal conditions

Best conditions actually. Even drying. No sun streaks. Solution stays wet longer for better cleaning.

🌧️

Light Rain

✅ We work

Pros work in drizzle routinely. Squeegee technique works regardless. Glass stays wet = better results.

⛈️

Heavy Rain / Thunder

❌ Rescheduled

Safety issue: slippery ladders, electrical risk during lightning. We reschedule to next available day.

💨

High Wind (40+ km/h)

⚠️ Case by case

Spray drift, ladder instability. Ground-level work fine. 2nd-floor water-fed pole fine. Ladder work rescheduled.

❄️

Below 0°C

❌ Season over

Water freezes on glass. Solution freezes. Rubber squeegee stiffens. December-March: no exterior cleaning in Toronto.

Toronto's Rain Reality

Toronto gets 133 days of precipitation per year — more than a third of all days. If window cleaners only worked on rain-free days, capacity would drop by 36%. And customers would wait 2-3x longer for appointments.

This is why purified water matters in Toronto specifically. In a city where it rains 1 in 3 days, you need cleaning that's rain-proof. ClearCoat™ purified water delivers that — your windows stay clean regardless of what the weather does next.

MANTLE's Weather Policy

The best time to see the difference: Overcast days after cleaning. Without sun glare, clean glass is almost invisible — you'll look through your window and forget there's glass there. That's the ClearCoat™ effect. Many customers text us their "invisible window" photos.

Don't Wait for Perfect Weather

ClearCoat™ purified water means rain-proof results. Book anytime April-November.
