Gardiner Expressway salt drift: The Gardiner runs elevated above Mimico's northern residential streets — and salt spray from the elevated highway drifts down and south with prevailing winds. During winter, salt trucks treat the Gardiner aggressively (it's one of Toronto's highest-priority roads). Homes on streets between Lake Shore Blvd and the Gardiner — roughly a 200m band — receive both Gardiner salt from above AND Lake Shore road salt from the street.
