Most homeowners in the GTA pay between $200 and $600 to have their driveway sealed professionally. That's a wide range — and there are good reasons for it. Here's exactly what drives the price, what you should expect to pay, and how to tell if a quote is fair.
Average driveway sealing cost by type
| Driveway Type | Typical Size | Price Range (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Asphalt (standard 2-car) | 400–600 sq ft | $200 – $400 |
| Asphalt (large/long) | 700–1,200 sq ft | $350 – $600 |
| Interlock / paving stone | 400–800 sq ft | $350 – $700 |
| Concrete | 400–600 sq ft | $300 – $500 |
| Add-on: walkway | 50–150 sq ft | $75 – $150 |
These prices reflect single-coat professional sealing in the GTA. Some older driveways with significant cracking or staining may need a pressure wash first (typically $100–$180 added to the job) or crack filling before sealing ($25–$75 per crack).

What affects the price
Size of the driveway
Price scales roughly per square foot. A single-car driveway costs noticeably less than a large double or triple-car pad.
Driveway condition
Clean, crack-free driveways are cheapest to seal. Cracks, oil stains, or heavy grime add prep time and cost.
Number of coats
Some companies quote one coat; others include two. A second coat extends protection but adds $75–$150 to the job.
Material type
Interlock sealing is more labour-intensive than asphalt — it requires joint sand refill and more careful application.
Access & layout
A straight rectangular driveway is faster to do than one with curved edges, pillars, or obstacles like low-hanging trees.
Time of year
Spring and fall are peak season — some providers charge a slight premium. Mid-summer bookings are often easiest to price well.
Asphalt vs. interlock: why interlock costs more
Asphalt sealing is relatively straightforward — clean the surface, apply sealant with a squeegee or sprayer, let it cure. The material is cheap and application is fast.
Interlock sealing involves sealing individual stones plus the joints between them. Polymeric sand often needs to be swept back into the joints after sealing. It's more time-consuming and requires a different product. Expect to pay $1–$1.50/sq ft more for interlock vs. asphalt.
DIY vs. professional: real cost comparison
| Cost Item | DIY | Professional |
|---|---|---|
| Sealant (5-gal pail) | $60 – $100 | Included |
| Squeegee / applicator | $25 – $50 | Included |
| Driveway cleaner / degreaser | $20 – $40 | Included |
| Your time (2–4 hours) | Unpaid | — |
| Quality of finish | Varies | Consistent |
| Driveway off-limits (curing) | 24–48 hrs | 24–48 hrs |
| Total cost | $105 – $190 | $200 – $600 |
DIY is cheaper upfront but many homeowners apply too thin a coat, miss proper edge sealing, or use low-grade consumer sealant that fades within a year. Professional-grade sealant lasts 2–4x longer. The math often favours professional sealing over a 5-year window.
How to spot a fair quote
- Price per sq ft: Expect $0.40–$0.80/sq ft for asphalt, $0.60–$1.10/sq ft for interlock
- Minimum charge: Most companies have a $150–$200 minimum — normal for small jobs
- Includes pressure wash? Some quotes bundle it; others charge separately. Ask before comparing
- One coat or two? Clarify this upfront — it's a meaningful difference in longevity
- Red flag: A quote under $100 for a full driveway usually means a single watered-down coat with cheap product
