Dryer Vent Cleaning Toronto
The Fire Risk You're Ignoring

15,000+ dryer fires per year in North America. Lint buildup is the #1 cause. When did you last check yours?

Here's a stat that should scare you: dryer lint is the leading cause of home laundry fires. Over 15,000 dryer fires occur annually in North America, causing $200+ million in property damage. The scary part — nearly all of them are preventable with a $100-$200 annual cleaning that takes 30-60 minutes.

6 Warning Signs — Clean NOW

🔄 Double cycles: Clothes need 2+ cycles to dry. #1 indicator — restricted airflow means heat can't escape.
🔥 Hot but damp: Clothes come out hot to touch but still damp. Heat is trapped, moisture can't vent.
🌡️ Hot dryer top: The top of your dryer is hot enough to feel through a towel. Heat is backing up into the machine.
👃 Burning smell: A burning or hot smell during drying. Lint is overheating. STOP using dryer immediately and clean vent.
🧶 Lint everywhere: Lint visible around the outside vent flap, on laundry room walls, or behind the dryer. The vent is leaking.
🐦 No flap movement: The outside vent flap doesn't open/close when dryer is running. Completely blocked — potentially by bird nest.

Why Toronto Vents Clog Faster

Vinyl flex duct = banned: Vinyl (white plastic) flexible dryer duct is a fire hazard and is banned by the Ontario Building Code for dryer venting. If your dryer uses white vinyl duct, replace it IMMEDIATELY with rigid aluminum or semi-rigid aluminum. Vinyl melts at dryer operating temperatures, releases toxic fumes, and collapses when heated — blocking airflow completely. This is the single most dangerous dryer installation mistake.

How Vent Cleaning Works

  1. Disconnect dryer from vent duct
  2. Insert rotating brush or compressed air tool through vent from inside
  3. Push lint through to the exterior exit (or vacuum from both ends)
  4. Clean exterior vent cover — remove accumulated lint, bird nesting material, and debris
  5. Inspect duct condition — check for crushed sections, disconnected joints, vinyl duct (replace if found)
  6. Test airflow — run dryer and verify strong exhaust at exterior vent

How MANTLE Helps

MANTLE doesn't currently offer interior dryer vent cleaning (it requires specialized rotary brush equipment different from our window/pressure tools). But we help in two ways:

The annual combo: The best home maintenance schedule pairs dryer vent cleaning ($100-$200) with annual gutter cleaning ($150-$300) in late fall. Both prevent expensive damage (fire and water, respectively), both take under an hour, and both are often forgotten. Book them together every November — your home insurance company will thank you.
