Window Tinting Toronto
Types, Costs & How It Affects Cleaning

UV protection, heat reduction, privacy — and what your window cleaner needs to know.

Window tinting is increasingly popular in Toronto — south and west-facing windows get brutal summer sun (up to 8 hours of direct exposure), driving cooling costs and fading furniture. The right tint reduces heat by 30-60%, blocks 99% of UV, and adds privacy. But tinted windows have special cleaning requirements that every homeowner — and every window cleaner — needs to know.

How Tinting Affects Window Cleaning

Window film is applied to the INTERIOR surface of glass. The exterior surface is unaffected and can be cleaned normally. The interior (tinted) surface needs special care:

Tell your cleaner BEFORE they start: Many professional window cleaners use ammonia-based solutions and razor blades as standard tools. If they don't know your windows are tinted, they'll use their standard method — and damage the film. Always mention tinting when booking. MANTLE uses ClearCoat™ purified water (no chemicals) and doesn't use razor blades as default — our method is tint-safe without any modifications needed.

Toronto-Specific Tinting Considerations

Clean BEFORE tinting: Window film is applied to the interior glass surface. Any dust, fingerprints, or debris on the glass during application gets permanently trapped under the film — visible as bubbles or specks. Always get a professional window cleaning BEFORE tinting installation. MANTLE offers a "pre-tint clean" — interior glass cleaned to optical quality so your film installer starts with a perfect surface.
The "clean then assess" sequence: Some homeowners tint windows to solve "glare" or "haze" problems that are actually just dirty windows. Before spending $1,500-$4,500 on whole-home tinting, get a professional clean first. If the glare goes away, you just saved thousands. If it persists, then tinting is the right solution — and you have clean glass ready for installation.
